The Department of Geology was started in 2015 under the University of Burdwan with annual intake capacity of 15 students in UG (Honours) course. With geological location on the Raniganj Coalfield within the Chhotanagpur Gneissic Complex, the college provides an ideal setting for teaching and learning of geology. For skill development through geological field training, the students get good exposures of varieties of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks with associated primary and secondary structures within 4-5 km from the college campus. Many open cast coal mines are also located nearby. The study of recent sediment and sedimentary structures can be done in the Damodar River, which flows in vicinity of the college.

With a view to generation of employability in future, the department has started 6-semester CBCS course in Geology (Honours) under the Bankura University from 2017.

The department has well equipped laboratories, virtual class room, computer laboratory with internet facility, seminar library and a museum with spectacular specimens. The performance of the students is quite satisfactory. In (1+1+1) pattern under Burdwan University, 50-70% students obtained 1st class. In CBCS under Bankura University, 90 % students secured CGPA > 6.00 out of 10.00 (the highest CGPA being > 9.00).
